The new owners of Clementon Park and Splashworld, the 114-year-old amusement destination that is reopening after being bought at auction in March, are offering a $500 hiring bonus for 120 hours worked by July 9 and hourly wages starting at $18 for ride maintenance positions.
The park has also advertised openings for lifeguards, ride operators, security guards and other jobs. The starting rate for lifeguards is advertised as $14.50 hourly for “deep water certified” applicants and a $150 signing bonus if 100 hours are worked by July 4.
The amusement park has 29 attractions, including a 23,000-square-foot wave pool and beach, giant water slide rides, a splash pool for toddlers and other amusements. Other attractions are the Sea Dragon arc swing with a 40-person capacity; Ring of Fire, a 360-degree loop ride; a giant ferris wheel; and, a train system with three 18-foot long cars and a rail system.
“Our number one goal is to provide a safe and friendly environment for every guest who visits us,” Gary Fawks, senior vice president of operations for Indiana Beach, the park’s owner, said in a statement last week.
Gene Staples, a Chicago-area real estate broker who owns Indiana Beach bought Clementon Park in an auction on March 24 for $2.6 million. The facility originally opened in 1907 and was one of the nation’s first trolley parks, built at the end of a rail line from Camden, NJ Advance Media previously reported.
It was founded by Theodore Gibbs and his two sons, and the family ran it for most of its existence. It was renamed Clementon Park and Splash World after it was sold to Premier Parks, an Oklahoma company, in 2011. It suddenly closed in September 2019 after Premier defaulted on a mortgage.
It had recently been listed as the second most valuable property in Clementon, a 2-square mile, bedroom community of 4,900 residents. The borough sits along Route 30, the White Horse Pike, which was once a key corridor to the Jersey Shore leading to Atlantic City, 47 miles away.
